Belgian artist Theophile van Rysselberghe was the founding member of the Belgian avantgarde art group ‘Les XX’ (The Twenty’) in the 19th century.

He discovered the Pointillist technique when he saw Georges Seurat's [A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte] at the eighth impressionist exhibition in Paris in 1886.  Rysselberghe adopted the Pointillist style right after, but he eventually turned away from Pointillism after 1903.
