▷━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━◁
Anselm Feuerbach was one of the leading German painters of the mid-19th century in Neoclassicism. Feuerbach lived in Italy from 1855 to 1873, and much of his best work was produced during this period. Feuerbach was regarded as a member of the so-called ‘Deutsch-Römer’ - a circle of German artists in Rome, Italy.
Inspired by Goethe’s play "Iphigenia in Tauris", in three different versions of the painting Feuerbach worked to create the ideal portrayal of this female Greek figure. The second version of Iphigenie, [Iphigenie II], was painted in 1871 and is currently at Staatsgalerie (State Gallery) Stuttgart, Germany.
