▷━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━◁

[Picnic in May (Majális)] is one of the most outstanding works of Hungarian painting, and there is also a good chance that you could apply for the title of "the most famous Hungarian painting".

Once we’ve seen this work, the masterfully designed, perfect composition is ingrained in us - as are the late spring colors shown in the picture. The striking power of the image lies in its bold use of color and fresh atmosphere, among other things.  Szinyei's main youth work was created in 1873.

Szinyei writes in her autobiography: “I also painted myself on the picture, lying on my stomach, having a snack, turning my back. I admit, I was thinking of critics who won’t like my picture. ” (excerpt from the painting description from Hungarian National Gallery)
